Spring Bank Holiday ~ May 31st

Happy Spring Bank Holiday to all in the UK!

What does Spring Bank Holiday mean to you?

This is what it means to me. Lots of memories!

I was very fortunate growing up and then teaching because spring bank holiday, and the week’s holiday certainly enjoyed in England, usually meant that I didn’t go to school or subsequently have to teach on my birthday. Rarely it happened. Both my birthday and my Mum’s was around the same time, and so over the years we were often able to celebrate our birthdays together. Such happy memories! One was in 2016 when my cousins came over as a surprise on Mum’s birthday (30th) and visited us in Fife. Here are a couple of recent ones:

A cruise with Mum and Dad on the Oriana in 2017
Enjoying Loch Marie on my birthday 2018

This year we have decided to go away for a long weekend up to Glen Clova, a very special place just on the southern tip of the Cairngorms, with an abundance of pathways leading up glens and into the mountains. It has poignant memories for me of 2020, when we were not able to share our birthdays due to Covid, so it is lovely to look back on happier times.

It will be good to recharge the batteries, enjoy a little bit of new found freedom to travel, albeit relatively close by, to have plenty of fresh air and walks and to be ‘in the moment’.

What have you been doing?

Volunteer Recognition Day ~ 20th April 2021

One Step Back into the World Again

On Sunday I joined my first session of socially distancing Kinghorn in Bloom; a volunteer group who work to enhance the beauty of our lovely coastal town in Fife, Scotland. It felt as if I was being liberated:

Tulips on the Kinghorn Loch Road

liberated…

from lock down, …

from loss,

from grief,

from guilt,

from a burden too heavy to carry.

Set free …

to be me again,

to serve,

to smile,

to contribute,

to enjoy the simple pleasures of flowers and plants.

Having returned from Bedford and my Mum’s cremation service I had a week of relative isolation before rejoining the world. This coincided with changes in regulations.

It’s going to take a while, but The Healing Paths of Fife are working their magic once more. Life moves on and I’m left with precious memories.

2020 and Friendship Over the Pond — Plain Talk and Ordinary Wisdom

As we watch and wait, viewing the changes around the world as if through a movie,

a thriller even,

and as our life as we know it gradually,

as in the case of us in the UK,

closes in on us;

I pray that we keep safe and healthy

and heed the warnings given by experts

who hold us entranced by their surreal words.

Thank you so much, Pat, for sharing my thoughts about our special on line friendship over the pond; vital in these uncertain and sometimes dangerous times as if battling with this unseen enemy. Hopefully we may retain our vitality for life and even our sense of humour, whatever difficulties we may face. Bless you Dx

Hello and welcome to a new decade and a new look, a work in progress. Here we are nearly a quarter of the way into this New Year and I’m just making my first appearance. 23 more words
